This outpatient surgery is performed in stages. An implant is an artificial replacement for a missing natural tooth. It is more stabile than dentures.
1. The damaged tooth is removed and the bone below the tooth is prepared for surgery.
2. A bone graft (transplantation of bone tissue) may be needed after the extraction.
3. After the bone heals a surgical grade Titanium post that is similar to a screw is implanted. It may take a few months for the bone to heal before the new tooth can be implanted.
4. When the bone heals from the metal post the new tooth is put (screwed) in place. It will match existing teeth in color and shade.
